How Much Money Can You Earn As A Medical Biller?

By Lou Goldman

Medical billers earn good salaries. It is a known fact that a medical biller with years of experience will earn a lot more money than someone with a couple of months' experience. It all depends on your education as well. How much school did you go through? Do you have a bachelors or master's degree in ICD-10 coding? Do you get higher returns for your employer? How well do you know about anatomy and physiology? These things actually matter in today's medical billing world. The reason for this is that most people don't know how to bill correctly.

Doctors are saying that they are losing money on their claims to insurance companies. When they submit a claim to them for around $360.00, they are receiving a check for around $100.00. Doctors are asking the question why? Many physicians have decided to outsource their work as well. They are tired of losing money to the insurance companies. They spend a great deal of time each day with their patients. They give them the care that they need. They give them testing and it is time consuming. It can be devastating to watch someone going through cancer or heart disease. A doctor's day is not easy. However, they do it because they want to help people.

The truth of the matter is that if you are not trained in ICD-10 coding, you cannot possibly do good. You cannot possibly earn a good living if you are not doing what you are supposed to. You need certification today in order to prove your skills. The more paperwork that you have, the better your chances are earning good money these days. Many physicians are looking for coders that have a master's degree in medical billing or certification in ICD-10 coding. You can get specialized training for this at a local trade school or university. Understanding ICD-10 takes time and money. It is all about what you can bring to the table.

If your employer feels that they are getting lots of money from you, then they will most likely keep you around. If they feel that you are not collection enough money for them, then you will most likely get replaced by someone that can deliver. Coding today is a lot different than it was 10 years ago. Today, insurance companies want to know a lot of information about the patient. They want to know if they are improving or not. Before they submit a payment to your business, they want to make sure that you are doing what you claim. They also want to see if it was really necessary to do the tests that you say the patient needs.

It is not uncommon to hear of a medical biller saying that they are helping a business to grow. They say this mainly because they are doing just that. A medical biller has to collect higher returns because everyone at the medical practice is depending on you. They are depending on you for more money and higher payouts so that they can get raises to. Believe it or not, the medical biller today is much like a sales person bringing in thousands of dollars for a company. Without a good sales person, the business will most likely fail. Many coders are finding out that building relationships with people that work for insurance companies helps them to get paid more money as well. It is much like anything else in life. When you build relationships with people, you begin to see better returns on your investments. Life is tricky like that sometimes. Even in the job market, it is who you know and not what you know a lot of the time.
