Learn The Symptoms And Signs Of Menopause Roanoke Female Residents

By Jason Peterson

Menopause causes many changes in a woman's body. It is during this time that the hormones estrogen and progesterone are decreasing causing symptoms to develop that can be uncomfortable and hard to bear. Some women go through this time in life without any symptoms and others have multiple symptoms that make life more challenging. There are symptoms and signs of menopause Roanoke women need to be aware of so they can take the proper course of action.

Hot flashes are one of the signs of these changes in a woman's body. She feels hot even though it may be cold outside and while some of these hot flashes are mild other times it can be unbearable for some women. You should talk to your doctor about treatment options if this symptom becomes too bothersome.

Another sign or symptom to be aware of is changes in the menstrual cycle. You may either flow heavily or hardly at all, only spotting for a few days or you could spot or flow heavily for several days longer than usual. When you have not had a period for at least 12 months and you begin spotting or having a period again, talk to your doctor as this may be a sign of some form of cancer and you need to be checked to ensure your health.

Insomnia is often a problem for women during menopause. The inability to sleep soundly or get a good night's rest. This can be brought on by many changes in the body. You should try natural methods and if those do not work talk to your doctor as they may be able to provide a sleep aid to help you.

Frequent urination or incontinence is also an issue. The vaginal lining can become thinner and the surrounding tissue tends to lose its elasticity causing you to feel like you must urinate constantly. This can be overcome with Kegel exercises to strengthen the pelvic muscles but you should also talk to your doctor about medication options.

You may also be prone to more urinary tract infections during this time as the vagina becomes more susceptible to bacteria due to the low levels of estrogen in the urinary tract. You could experience frequent or painful urination and this is when you should see a doctor as they can prescribe an antibiotic to combat this infection.

Your sex drive may not be what it used to be during this time as well and this can be due to painful sex or vaginal dryness. Talk with your doctor about treatment options for painful sex. They may be able to prescribe pain medication that can help. They may also suggest vaginal creams or gels that you can apply as well.

While these symptoms and signs are not all-inclusive these are just some of them. What you experience may be different as each woman is different and goes through different changes. Getting medical help during this time is very important as a doctor will be better able to advise you on what you should do and the medications that may be available to you to help with certain symptoms. During this time you may feel like you are alone but there are many resources available both online and offline that can help you through this changing time in your life. There will be adjustments to get used to but with the proper help and guidance and medical care it should make this time of your easier to get through and manage.
